Alpine Ski Racing Program
The word 'Stowe' is synonymous with ski racing. Since skiing first began on mighty Mt. Mansfield, our mountain has put out many of the fastest ski racers in the world – and most of those racers have trained with MMSC.

The coaches and staff of MMSC follow the success stories of our current athletes and alumni with great pride and honor. Maybe it's because many them started training with us when they were just 7 years old. By the time they grow up and move on, they are thought of as family.

JI and JII Programs
The JI/JII programs are for ski racers who are 15 years of age and older. The programs start in late November and runs through March with mid-week academy sessions beginning in early December. Athletes compete on both the USSA and FIS levels. Athletes may choose to participate in one of two formats offered in this program: daily academy training (6 days a week) or weekend training.

  • JI and JII racing on the USSA level (state, regional, national) and FIS
  • Introduction to Downhill as well as continued technical progress in the elements of SG, GS and SL
  • Dartfish Video Technique analysis

JIII Programs
This ski racing program is for those athletes who are 13-14 years old. Like the I&II program you can join the Mt. Mansfield Winter Academy for focused training 5 days a week for first year IIIs and 6 days a week for second year IIIs, or train on weekends and Friday afternoons as well as holiday periods. On snow training begins in late November and continues through the end of March.

JIV Program
A ski racing program designed for athletes between the ages of 11 and 12 years old. JIVs will learn the fundamentals of being a ski racer including ski tuning, race preparation & execution of race courses. Emphasis is on free skiing, ski drills and race technique with introduction to Super G racing. Video Technique Analysis is an integral part of the JIV Program.

JV and JVI Programs
An introductory skiing and ski race program for youngsters between the ages of 7 and 10 years old. Emphasis is on basic ski technique, introduction to ski racing and fun in the sport. Other goals include acquiring a good ski base, learning about good sportsmanship and instilling a positive team spirit. Training is done in small groups of 8-10. Participants must be able to ride the lift alone, put on their own equipment, ski parallel, and ski down challenging trails such as Nose Dive (easier black diamond runs). Participants will be grouped by ability and will rotate through the different coaches biweekly.

JV+VI Sunday Only Program
An introductory skiing and ski race program for new youngsters between the ages of 7 and 8 years old. This program is designed to give your child a taste of skiing with MMSC. The Sunday program is based on the same philosophy as the regular JV/VI program with introduction to freestyle as well. Athletes will ski within the JV/VI groups and extra coaches will be added as needed. Student to coach ratio is 8:1.

Supplemental and Optional Programs

Friday Morning Add-on to Weekend Programs
Is your young JIII or JIV looking for a little extra training? Do you have a young snowboarder or freestyler/freeskier that is 10 or older and looking for a little extra training? This add-on is a supplement to each respective Weekend Program. This will compliment the Friday Program, which is included in the weekend programs and will happen on the same dates. Starts in mid-January (dates TBA) and will go for 10 weeks. The weeks are not consecutive because there is one vacation week in February.

Mandatory Winter Dryland Program
This winter dryland program is designed for athletes in any of our full-time programs. Designed for those athletes who have decided to pursue their respective sport more seriously, the winter program will focus on maintaining strength and flexibility. The dates of this program mirror the dates of the full programs. The dryland is monitored and implemented by Phit Performance Training. While this program will provide structure to your son’s or daughter’s winter workouts, keep in mind that he or she should be working out even harder during the off season. Phit has programs for all times of year and has the input of our coaches so they focus on the proper fitness routines. There is a charge for this mandatory dryland program, refer to the MMSC Remittance Form for fees.
