The Mt. Mansfield Ski Club
The Mt. Mansfield Ski Club was forged by a small group of passionate local skiers and was incorporated in 1934 as a non-profit, non-promotional organization. The purpose was to provide, maintain, and improve skiing facilities on Mt. Mansfield. Their combined efforts and enthusiasm formed the cornerstone of what is now a thriving mountain community.
The best access to the top of the mountain, before any lifts were built, was a hike through Ranch Valley and up the newly cut Bruce Trail or the Toll Road. Usually the maximum runs in a day was two, but on occasion someone was seen resting at Ranch Camp, original home of MMSC, before they ascended for their third run of the day.
Spurred on by the dedication and talents of Sepp Ruschp and CV Starr, MMSC grew into an amateur ski organization which served as the official sponsor of sanctioned competitive events. MMSC's Junior Skiing Program began in 1951 as an after school activity for children with an interest in skiing. The Junior Program has grown each year, now offering ski racing, snowboarding and freestyle coaching to over 220 young athletes.

Our Junior Program Philosophy
The primary purpose of the Mt. Mansfield Ski and Snowboard Junior Programs is to provide an environment in which a young athlete will learn the sport of ski racing, snowboarding, and/or freestyle in an enjoyable, supportive manner that encourages personal growth and fulfillment, not only as athletes, but as a human beings. By setting and then achieving realistic but challenging goals, an athlete will learn the reward of hard work, dedication, and self-discipline. It's a complete team effort that involves instructor, student, and parents. It is with this spirit of cooperation that the Mt. Mansfield Ski and Snowboard Club Junior Program will encourage self-confidence, self-esteem and self-reliance in its participating athletes.
